We spent the next few days in Durban, trying to sort out the damage to the car.Turns out that I can get it fixed for as little as R 2000, but it would take at least 3 days…can’t be asked to wait around…we’re running out of time, maybe i,ll fix it on the way down to Cape Town.Next stop Port st Johns.

We stopped off at Umfolozi Game reserve just outside St Lucia to try and complete our mission of seeing the big 5. We had the place to ourselves. Kruger the week before had prov en successful with us spotting a leopard, plenty of elephant ,and a bladdy big buffalo up close, on our way out of the park.
The first couple of hours at Umfolozi were rather uneventful , but things changed with the weather and we ended up spotting lion - a group of females on the banks of a river. They were eyeing out the place.
Umfolozi was brilliant, no cars, no tourists, and the park is small enough to get around it in one day. We have plenty of very close encounters with rhino , elephant
And we almost hit a giraffe. He was standing in the middle of a small side road that we took. Both of us trying to find shelter from the torrential downpour.
